Boots launches free online NHS repeat prescription service
Boots has developed a free online NHS repeat prescription service, in partnership with NHS Digital and NHS England.
Launched in May, the service is available through the Boots app and the company’s website.
It uses technology from Wiggly-Amps Limited, a company which was acquired by Boots in January, and allows customers to directly order their repeat prescription from their GP record and have it sent to Boots for dispensing.
It gives patients the convenience of ordering repeat prescriptions from their mobiles, arranging collection from a store or having it delivered to their home for free.
Richard Bradley, pharmacy director at Boots UK, added: “Digital Healthcare is integral to the NHS Long Term Plan. In ten years’ time, I think pharmacy services at Boots will be almost unrecognisable; pharmacists will spend less time dispensing and more time offering clinical services.
“Through our investment in digitising pharmacy, our pharmacists will have more time to bring even greater value to the overall primary care system, offering greater choice and access to health care.”
It’s not just Boots who has ventured into the world of online prescriptions.
Co-op recently announces it had appointed a mobile technology company to help support the development of its new health app.
Apadmi has been tasked with helping to manage Co-op Health, an app which helps people manage their repeat prescriptions.

I recently left Boots ad my choice of pharmacy for my electronic prescriptions. Why? Because for the past year every time I go for.my prescription they are ALWAYS out of stock of a common anti-hyperte dive medication. Not good enough after 8 years as my chosen pharmacy.
Does the NHS or boots cover the cost of delivery
But will it dispense and deliver opiate medication?
But I can do this already by logging onto to my GP’s website, ordering my medication and it gets sent straight to my local independent pharmacy. The only difference is it’s encouraging people to use a large company like boots instead of their local pharmacies, why? There must be something in it for the NHS for them to do this. I would rather use a small independent pharmacy with my local pharmacist who knows me knows my medication, who I trust not to sell me something I don’t need just to make money out of me
