Movers and shakers news round-up

This month’s Movers and Shakers round-up features appointments across various trusts and organisations, including Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, Professional Record Standards Body and M3 Health.

Andrew Raynes has joined Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust as its chief information officer and director of IM&T.

Raynes previously held the title of IM&T programme director at Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust.

“Having been in post just three weeks, my appointment is to help develop and drive our digital strategy, optimise the recent implementation of our new electronic patient record Lorenzo and the interoperability agenda”, Raynes said. “I have the exciting project that is our transition to the brand new Papworth Hospital, which as we know is set to be a world class phenomenon of healthcare excellence enabled by the latest technology.”

Maureen Baker has been appointed chair of the Professional Record Standards Body. The PRSB sets professional standards for the content of health and care records to improve the quality and safety of patient care.

Baker is immediate past chair of the Royal College of GPs and has spent her career championing quality improvement and patient safety through better use and sharing of clinical and professional care information. Baker took up the chair this month following the retirement of Iain Carpenter, the founding chair of the PRSB.

“Throughout my career as a clinician and medical leader I’ve been utterly committed to improving patient care and I believe information plays a critical part in this”, Baker said. “I am delighted to take up the role of chair of the PRSB, as their work on developing and implementing standards is fundamental to improving quality and safety.”

Dr Rizwan Malik is now the medical advisor at Healthcare Software Solutions (HSS), supplier of radiology information system CRIS.

Malik is a consultant radiologist at Royal Bolton NHS Foundation Trust, where he is trust PACS lead and associate CCIO. In his new role with HSS, it is said Malik will play a key part in advising both at a visionary level for CRIS but also at a more detailed and practical level ensuring that HSS’ product and service offerings continue to be at the forefront of delivering ever better and ever more efficient clinical outcomes for patients. He will be closely involved with the first new module of the evolution roadmap, CRIS Reporting, which will be available in late 2017.

Dr Mark Davies has joined Your.MD as chair of its newly-formed clinical advisory board. Davies will provide advice and oversight for Your.MD across all areas of clinical practice. The company provides a symptom checker app grounded in artificial intelligence.

Davies is the former clinical lead of Health and Social Care Information Centre (HSCIC) – predecessor organisation to NHS Digital. Your.MD co-founder and CEO Matteo Berlucchi said as a leading figure in health technology, health policy, informatics and system redesign, “we’re honoured to have Dr Davies chairing our board.” Most recently, Davies was European medical director of a Silicon Valley-based analytics company and currently serves as non-executive director for the British Medical Journal while providing strategic advice to clients spanning health bodies, health tech companies and governments.

Tas Hind will join healthcare consultancy Essentia Trading Ltd as its technology director to develop and lead a new IT practice. Essentia offers expertise to healthcare, science, public and private organisations on areas such as strategic estates development, capital development, healthcare planning and property management. With 20 years’ experience at senior management level, she will be helping clients to define and deliver their digital solutions strategies, supporting them with business case development and developing and optimising their IT solutions. “All parts of health and care organisations are under significant pressure to deliver services efficiently without compromising the quality of patient care”, Hind said. “By integrating technology and healthcare planning and where possible finding ways of challenging the status quo, we can make a real difference to the way that they operate, make significant savings, whilst improving efficiency and build a sustainable and secure healthcare system for the future.”

Simon Walker has just been appointed director of education at global healthcare technology services provider and consultancy, M3 Health.

The company reaches more than four million doctors and Walker will lead M3 education’s strategy. He brings 20 years of senior management experience in print, digital publishing, and international education events in the healthcare arena. “I’m very excited to join M3 – a company I have known well and have admired for some time now. It’s leading the field in medical networks and there is a real opportunity to help build on the vision to continue to change the world of medicine through technology. I look forward to using my expertise across the healthcare sector to take their education offering forward.”

Brendan Mahony recently moved to Barts Health NHS Trust as deputy chief information officer and director of clinical systems. Prior to that he was the director of IT at Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust for nearly three years.
