Nightwatchman turns Newham green
- 4 March 2011
Newham University Hospital NHS Trust expects to save money and cut carbon emissions with Power and Patch management from 1E.
The trust deployed the software – which combines the company’s NightWatchman and Wake on LAN tools – over its new software distribution platform, Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager.
It expects to save £18,500 per year by using the system, which applies power policies to its PC estate.
Some computers, including those in the pathology department, those hooked up to x-ray machines and those located in A&E are excluded; but these make up just 4% of the estate.
"One month in, and we’re already saving approximately £1,250 per month across just the PCs which had the agreed power policy applied," said Shaun Jeffery, ICT operations manager.
"In just one year, we stand to save over £18,500 but also reduce our carbon emissions by approximately 143 metric tonnes per year."
The trust has embraced sustainability and carbon reduction, and was named ‘greenest hospital’ at the Healthcare, Excellence and Leadership Awards 2010.
