CSC wins Austrian e-health deal

  • 14 September 2010

CSC has announced it has won a contract to deliver its master patient index system across Austria.

The system will allow healthcare professionals to perform a nationwide search of electronic patient records, which they will then able to access regardless of where they are stored.

By using the application, health professionals will be able to see a detailed, single view of a patient’s medical record from any hospital or location.

Horst-Martin Dreyer, director of CSC Healthcare EMEA central region, said: “The MPI will cut the administrative burden on hospital staff, and most importantly, improve patient care.

“Healthcare professionals often do not know where a patient has been treated in the past and where to source their latest records.

"By providing a system that can do this automatically, we will improve efficiency and allow doctors to concentrate on providing the best and safest care possible based on the latest information available for each patient.”

The company has been contracted by a sub division of the country’s social insurance department under the Austrian Federal Ministry for Health, which holds overall responsibility for the electronic records project.

The Master Patient Index System is part of a wider project to provide a joined up electronic healthcare system, which includes a health service provider index, document register, authorisation concept, health portal and e-medication.

CSC is now working with its partner, Siemens, and specialists in development management, business analysis and information architecture to deliver the project in early 2011.
