ICW to use Cisco for Healthcare Connector

Germany’s InterComponentWare (ICW) has announced it will be using the Cisco Application eXtension Platform as part of its Healthcare Connector product.

ICW describes Health Connector as the critical technological component for the high security communication of health data.

Using Cisco’s Application eXtension Platform, applications can be installed directly on a Cisco Integrated Services Router (ISR), enabling full integration of data routing.

“The Healthcare Connector is a single platform solution which combines unique capabilities from ICW and Cisco to provide a comprehensive and highly secure health communications solution,” said Dave Frampton, vice president of marketing for Cisco’s Access Routing Technology Group.

Security functions of the Cisco ISR will integrate with any application software, and can be run on a single device.

“Taking advantage of the Cisco AXP platform in the Integrated Services Router gives ICW’s Healthcare Connector Application real-time access to network services critical to the delivery of a complete solution,” Frampton added.

The Healthcare Connector was initially deployed in 2007 as part of the national pilot project for an electronic health card in the Republic of Bulgaria.

A version adapted to the needs of the German healthcare system has recently been approved for use as connector in the official German health card tests.
