Ospedale di Lecco hospital group gets Orbis EPR

  • 18 December 2007

Italy’s, Ospedale di Lecco hospital group has gone live with the elements of Orbis electronic patient record supplied by Agfa Healthcare.

The solution is now live at Monzoni hospital, one of the three hospitals within the Ospedale di Lecco hospital group. Manzoni is a 681 bed hospital, the largest within the group.

The hospital has completed phase one of the installation, covering the management of inpatient and day-patients. This initial phase began in March 2007.

To help streamline the facility’s workflow and data management, three Orbis modules -master data and security, ward graphic and order entry and result reporting – have been installed in Mazoni’s general surgery and general medicine departments.

The modules, which form part of Agfa’s Orbis EPR system, have successfully been integrated with Mazoni hospital’s existing IT systems, including: the admission, discharge and transfer (ADT) system, the emergency room solution and the hospital’s existing intranet.

So far over 200 doctors and nurses, are using Orbis to assign patients to rooms and beds and to order electronically examinations from the laboratory information system (LIS) or consultancy visits via the hospital intranet.

All reports electronically generated are transferred to the Orbis Patient Folder.

In the second phase project phase, to be finalised by the end of 2007, Orbis will be extended to include medical documentation (including diagnosis and procedures coding) and nursing documentation (including vital signs).

Pietro Caltagirone, CEO of the Ospedale di Lecco, said: "Thanks to the partnership with Agfa HealthCare, the Manzoni Hospital has reached another milestone on its path towards excellence and continuous enhancement of its healthcare services, which started with an EN ISO 9001:2000 (European Quality Management System) certification.”

Caltagirone added: “The hospital began analyzing and standardizing its healthcare documentation in 2000 and Orbis is an integral part of this evolution. The Agfa HealthCare solution will enable us to further optimise diagnosis and care processes."

Andrea Fiumicelli, executive vice president of Agfa HealthCare, added: "With the introduction of Orbis at the Ospedale Manzoni di Lecco in Italy, we have once again demonstrated our capabilities to the Italian and other European markets.”
