Accreditation for e-prescription service software

  • 29 September 2005

Pharmacy software specialist, Systems Solutions, has received accreditation from NHS Connecting for Health to transmit prescriptions electronically through N3, the NHS network.

Systems Solutions’ announced that its flagship patient medication record (PMR) system, QicSCRIPT, which is currently live in over 1,200 Boots stores, was awarded the “Technical Authority to Deploy” certificate this week.

It successfully completed compliance testing for the electronic prescription service (EPS), formerly known as the electronic transmission of prescriptions.

QicSCRIPT enables pharmacists to retrieve and dispense prescriptions which have been transmitted electronically from GP surgeries to the national data spine. Systems Solutions say the EPS-compliant version of QicSCRIPT will be deployed shortly live in an independent pharmacy site.

Managing director, Nick Strong, said: “Pharmacists are under more and more pressure to deliver high quality services in an increasingly time-sensitive environment. Electronic prescriptions will have an enormous role to play in streamlining dispensing in busy pharmacies, and will be vital for freeing up more of our pharmacist’s time for patient care. In addition, it will also enhance patient safety by eliminating potential hazards such as those presented by illegible handwritten prescriptions.”

He added: “Pharmacy is going through dramatic changes right now, and EPS could potentially be seen as another challenge in a very busy time. Therefore, we’ve designed EPS to reside neatly within the dispensing section of QicSCRIPT, making it easy-to-use. Pharmacists can build up EPS script volumes gradually, without slowing down their day-to-day operations.”

QicSCRIPT is a Windows-based PMR and pharmacy management system designed for independent pharmacies, small multiples and large pharmacy chains. It comprises several modules: dispensing and endorsing, stock control and ordering, medicines management and reporting.

For pharmacy chains, the system includes a Head Office module which includes centralised, shared patient medication records and offers real-time control over stock, ordering, dispensing and professional practices in stores.
