First implementation phase of Guernsey’s new EPR delayed to 2025

First implementation phase of Guernsey’s new EPR delayed to 2025

The president of the Committee for Health and Social Care in Guernsey, Deputy Al Brouard, has announced in a statement that the first phase of the island’s EPR implementation has been delayed to 2025 due to patient safety.

The first phase was initially planned to go live in October 2024; however this has now been pushed back. Brouard stated: “It is critical to patient safety to ensure that the transfer of old records to the new system is implemented seamlessly, and with a high-level attention to testing and new working practices.

“The EPR Team has identified that there would be too much risk to these essential aspects of the Programme to go live in October.”

It has also been confirmed by the president that the Committee will provide further updates as the project moves forward.

The statement, which can be viewed in full here, also highlights the importance of the EPR as “a key enabler for the future” which can “enable new working” as well as “better data and efficiencies with teams able to work with a modern digital system, which will have the facilities in the future to link all our health care together”.

Back in 2021, the suppliers for the programme were selected by the States of Guernsey, with IMS MAXIMS named for acute and mental health services, and Servelec for community and child health services.

Over on the island of Jersey, the Government has recently announced that it is awarding up to £2 million to technology solutions that improve the lives and wellbeing of Jersey’s rapidly ageing population.
