Spotlight to shine on Digital Nursing at Rewired 2022

A focus on the work being done by nurses in the digital health space is a new feature of Digital Health Rewired 2022.

The Digital Nursing Summit on March 15 will shine a spotlight on the range of work which is being carried out to ensure nurses at all levels take the lead in ensuring digital tools and services benefit all patients. The programme will showcase digital nursing leaders, teams and initiatives from across the NHS.

Speaking of the programme, key highlights include Ruth May, chief nursing officer at NHS England and Improvement and Frances Beadle, national clinical informatics lead for nursing at Digital Health and Care Wales.

Also on the programme is Digital Health’s CNIO Network chair, Sarah Hanbridge, who will be taking part in a roundtable discussion which will explore the benefits of establishing a community of shared interest, support and learning; with contributions from established digital nursing networks that are leading the way.

The session will be chaired by NHS Digital’s chief nurse, Jo Dickson, who was also part of the planning group for the Digital Nursing Summit.

Speaking to Digital Health in December 2021, Dickson said she is hoping the Summit will help in “bringing new people into this arena” of digital nursing.

She also added that there are two key groups that will be focused on as part of the Summit.

“One of them is chief nurse and deputy chief nurses from across all sectors and organisations, because what is happening now is a lot of them know that they need to consider digital as part of their wider portfolios of work, but they don’t always know where to start in doing that. We would like them to attend the conference so that they can get a good understanding of how they might write a digital nursing strategy or how to structure a team working on digital.” she said the time.

“The other group we want to encourage to come along is the group who aren’t CNIO at the moment or work in an organisation where they don’t have a CNIO.

“We’re going to try and encourage that group of people to come along and learn more about how they can work with their own chief nurses and deputy chief nurses to put those posts in place and make sure that every organisation has somebody responsible for nursing informatics.”

Dickson will also be taking part in the Rewired Digital Nursing Big Debate which will also feature, Sarah Newcombe, CNIO for Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust and Dr Natasha Phillips, CNIO for NHS Transformation Directorate.

Another highlight is a session on digital transformation in nursing which will feature Jules Gudgeon, national digital midwife lead for maternity at NHS Transformation Directorate and Peter-Marc Fortune who is clinical senior responsible officer for digital child health and maternity at NHS Transformation Directorate.

Taking place on March 15-16 at the Business Design Centre in London, Digital Health Rewired 2022 is a conference and exhibition which brings together all parts of the digital health community to celebrate the best of digital, data and innovation in health and care.

Health and care professionals will be able to network, collaborate and learn in person during two days of educational conference sessions, exhibitions and meetings, all focused on sharing best practice and innovation.

All the conference sessions will be CPD accredited.

Also taking place will be the Pitchfest competition, which returns for its fourth year. The competition will see another 16 digital health start-ups battle it out to the live final to win an NHS test bed site for their idea or solution.

  • I hope there’s going to be a testable definition of what “Digital Nursing” is and comprises.
