Digital Health’s monthly roundup of contracts and go lives

Our latest roundup of contracts and go lives includes activities in two Welsh health boards and Somerset taking the first steps to phase out pagers and paper.

Frimley looks to Hyland for clinical document digitisation

The beginning of the month saw Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust chose Hyland’s OnBase to digitise and manage its clinical documents.

The OnBase platform consolidates existing documents stored in disparate areas into one repository. It’s hoped this will optimise workflow and performance across the trust.

The platform will deliver content to clinicians and staff by integrating with the trust’s £108m Epic electronic patient record, due to go live in March 2022.

Betsi Cadwaladr University strikes five-year deal with Civica

June also saw Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board strike a five-year deal with Civica to support the board’s patient record transition programme.

The deal will see the health board using Civica’s Cito software to deliver a single and cohesive view of patient records across the board’s sites, known as the digital health record (DHR) project.

The DHR will use electronic forms to gather information directly from clinicians, patients and health care professionals, alongside drawing information from other key local and national systems together with scanned information to significantly reduce the reliance on paper.

The aim of this approach is to create a single digital patient case note that can be shared safely and easily with other health care professionals in Wales and beyond.

Aneurin Bevan University Health Board goes live with CareFlow e-obs

It was a big month for another Welsh health board, this time round its Aneurin Bevan University Health Board where seven hospital sites went live with System C’s CareFlow e-observation system.

This means that important clinical information was available to doctors and nurses without the need to be bed-side and so reducing the need for repeated PPE changes.

Replacing the traditional pen and paper charts kept at the end of hospital beds, staff are now using iPad Minis and iPads to track this information.

Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes CCG awards analytics contract

This month has also seen Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes CCG has awarded a business intelligence and analytics contract to NHS Arden and Greater East Midlands Commissioning Support Group (Arden & GEM).

The contract includes developing primary care and commissioning dashboards that will enable reporting, benchmarking and Covid recovery, as well as tracking clinical safety and service quality. It will run from June 2021 for two years with an option to extend for 12 months.

Somerset looks to ban paper and pagers

Most recently, we have reported on how Somerset NHS Foundation Trust has gone live with a digital task management solution from Infinity Health in a bid to phase out paper and pagers.

The Global Digital Exemplar (GDE) has rolled out the solution at Musgrove Park Hospital’s out of hours team, covering adult medical and surgical in-patient wards.

Ward staff can phone requests through to a coordinator who can log the request on to Infinity’s digital to-do list. The out of hours team is then able to log in and see what tasks have been allocated to them and the location.
