Digital Health’s monthly roundup of contracts and go lives

Our May roundup of contracts and go lives includes news from University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust and University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust.

Sussex looks to Civica for cloud-based e-prescribing

Most recently, Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust revealed it has selected Civica to deploy a cloud-based electronic prescribing and medicine administration (ePMA) solution.

Civica Prescribing has been designed to prevent medication errors as it provides precise patient information and support for medical decisions. The overall aim is to improve patient care and clinical safety with the solution specifically designed for mental health, and community care settings.

The trust’s five-year deal with Civica will support its digital transformation programme to develop more patient-facing and self-management technology, and improve data analytics and interoperability between systems.

North Cumbria goes for a Better solution

May has also seen North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust going live with an e-prescribing and allergy monitoring platform from Better.

The Better Meds solution will support the immediate integration of the trust’s existing decision support systems as well as its pharmacy and Omnicell automated dispensing cabinets.

The solution is built on an openEHR platform to allow further integration with new systems in the future.

It marks the next step in the trust’s ambition to move away from paper-based systems towards a central EPR model, intended to improve the delivery of hospital and community health services to more than half a million people.

Outpatient tech deployed at University Hospitals Birmingham

A suite of digital patient engagement tools were launched by University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust in partnership with DrDoctor.

Using DrDoctor’s tools, patients can now view hospital letters online and take part in video consultations from their smartphone, tablets or laptops.

Hospital staff can also use the tools to reduce the time spent managing the booking process, with appointment reminders sent automatically to patients.

Joined up health and care moves one step closer for Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin ICS

This month has also seen Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin Integrated Care System (ICS) award Graphnet Health a contract to join up health and care services across the county.

Health and care professionals in neighbouring Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent are already using the Graphnet solution to power the region’s shared care record – known locally as One Health and Care.

The shared care record will be extended to Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin giving health and care professionals secure access to a comprehensive and up-to-date record for the individuals in their care.

It is hoped the shared record will improve decision making and reduce duplication.

University of North Midlands select Ordr to bolster its cyber security

Finally, the beginning of May saw University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust choose Ordr to provide a new cyber security solution that will improve patient safety.

The systems control engine (SCE) solution is able to locate and secure every connected device, including Internet of Medical Things (IoMT), Internet of Things (IoT) and Operational Technologies (OT).

As a result, all hospital equipment, medical and non-medical, connected to the trust’s network can be profiled, protected and monitored under one umbrella system, which can detect any abnormal activity that may suggest a device has been compromised.
