The latest edition of Digital Health Unplugged delves into the roles of NHSX and NHS Digital and who should be taking the lead when it comes to NHS IT.
Last year we recorded an edition of Unplugged with special guest host Hannah Crouch, Digital Health’s editor, who invited a panel to discuss whether they think the two organisations should join together.
A lot has happened since the session was recorded at the end of November 2020, but with recent developments proposing NHSX joins other organisations to form a “transformational directorate” we thought it was time to revisit the conversation.
The panel was made up of, Luke Redman, Regional Director Digital Transformation, NHS London; Philip Graham, Digital Programme Director Blackpool Teaching Hospitals; and Mandy Griffin, Director Digital Health, The Health Informatics Service, as well as senior reporter and regular podcast host Andrea Downey.
They discussed whether they think the organisations should merge and what they would like to see in the unpublished Wade-Gery review.
The Wade-Gery review was commissioned by health secretary Matt Hancock in July 2020 with an aim to find ways to help the NHS digitise “harder and faster”. Interim findings were due to be presented to NHS England and Improvement late last year but were delayed.
Digital Health News understands the review had been set to recommend the creation of an entirely new ‘transformation taskforce’ unit.
Digital Health Unplugged is published fortnightly on Spotify, iTunes and Apple Podcasts. Follow us to stay up-to-date with the latest news.
