NHS Mental Health Trust looks to transform digital capabilities with Access Rio EPR

Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust have chosen Access Rio EPR to enhance and connect their systems. The trust, who have over 4,500 staff across more than 100 sites, currently use separate health systems.

The Access Rio EPR, already used across over half of UK mental health Trusts, has been chosen to transform the service, connecting acute, GP, community and mental health services. The solution will allow clinicians access to real-time information without the need to log into several systems, streamlining services and reducing time spent on administration.

Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust chose to partner with Access HSC (Health Support and Care) to implement their electronic patient record as its interoperable capabilities allows the linking together of their many existing suppliers. Rio EPR will connect to the existing community health centre system, ePMA, patient flow system and patient portal, transforming existing processes.

Lisa Yates, Director of Digital and CIO at Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust said: “We are very much looking forward to working with Access HSC as we continue our digital transformation journey. It is exciting to see how the new EPR can help the Trust deliver efficient ways of working and more collaboration through an enhanced level of interoperability to help drive improved care outcomes to our population.”

As well as the EPR, Herefordshire and Worcestershire Trust are using the mobile solution, ensuring clinicians can access information wherever they are. The platform enables a safe, secure environment to share data between the various systems and mobile apps to deliver a truly integrated approach to patient care. Additional modules also allow test results to be recorded directly into the EPR.

Steve Wightman, Commercial Director at Access Health Support and Care, commented: “We’re pleased to partner with Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust. By integrating their existing services with Rio EPR, it will provide vital access to information at the point of care, supporting clinicians and ultimately those in the Herefordshire and Worcestershire region.”

In October, Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust said it had rolled out the Access Rio EPR in just eight weeks.
