FCI members to vote at AGM on becoming special interest group of BCS

Members of the Faculty of Clinical Informatics (FCI) are set to vote at the upcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM) on whether the organisation should transition and become a special interest group of the British Computer Society (BCS).

In recent weeks, the newly appointed trustees have explored various alternatives and submitted these to the FCI council for consideration. Decisions were made based on these evaluations, and, after a thorough legal review, a set of resolutions has been prepared for the FCI to move forward.

This comes after the Faculty told its members in November 2023 that it will likely have to be closed down and cease operations due to severe financial and other pressures.

One resolution the Trustee Board recommends is to transfer memberships to the BCS. This will be effective upon the majority approval of the Voting Members that cast a vote at the AGM, which takes place on Friday 12 January.

As the FCI’s demise edges closer, a new UK membership body has been launched, called UK Digital Health and Care (UKDHC), to provide a home for professionals in the sector.

The UKDHC website says the new body will focus on providing training and education support for health and social care informaticians in order to improve the delivery of health and social care services using modern technology.

The team behind the association includes former leading figures from FCI: Professor Angus Wallace, Dr James Reed, Dr Jacob Taljard, Mr Taimur Shoaib, Dr DJ Hamblin and Nehal Hassan.
