Digital Health’s monthly roundup of contracts and go lives

The first contracts and go lives roundup of 2024 features Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust going live with a new EPMA from System C and HoloCare launching at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

Devon Sexual Health Services implement new EPR and PHR

Early January saw patients in Devon now being able to self-manage certain aspects of their sexual health, as Devon Sexual Health Services implemented Inform Health’s electronic patient record system and the patient-facing Personal Health Record.

The PHR will initially allow people in Devon to book and amend appointments for contraception, sexual health and HIV services online. Longer term, it is hoped it will enable patients to manage other areas of their sexual health – for example, contraception and STI testing by post and self-taken histories.

The digital transformation project will help to improve patient access and autonomy and it is hoping it will also deliver significant efficiency savings for the service. The solution has been designed to meet Devon Sexual Health Service’s bespoke needs and to replace three separate EPRs that were in use across multiple clinics.

The Inform Health solutions are now live at the Exeter and Barnstaple clinics, with Torbay expected to follow suit early this year.

Sheffield Children’s goes live with System C EPMA

Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust has gone live with its integrated electronic prescribing and medicines administration (EPMA) solution from System C, making Sheffield Children’s the first specialist paediatric trust to integrate System C’s CareFlow Medicines Management (CMM) across the EPR pathway.

The move from paper drug cards to CMM has so far taken place across 10 inpatient areas at the trust. Phase two will focus on the remaining inpatient areas, outpatients, the emergency department, Becton Centre and Ryegate Children’s Centre.

By integrating CMM with its patient administration system (PAS) and other care coordination solutions, Sheffield Children’s is looking to advance its digital maturity, improve the inpatient process and provide a more transparent solution to medicines management.

HoloCare to launch at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust

Having gained UKCA and CE mark certification, surgical health tech startup HoloCare is launching into five UK and EU hospitals, helping surgeons to carry out operations more efficiently and accurately.

In the UK, the surgical hologram technology will be deployed at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. The software creates interactive 3D holograms of individual patient’s organs, enabling surgeons to precisely plan and personalise surgeries to the patient’s unique anatomy.

By delivering improved spatial awareness ahead of operations, surgeons can perform more efficiently and accurately which will help improve waiting time, patient surgery outcomes and improve clinician wellbeing.

The mixed reality and AI-powered platform will initially be used to improve the quality of planning for complex liver resections – where part of the liver tissue is removed. This type of surgery is commonly used in the treatment of liver cancer and bowel cancer.

Cylera and Integra e-Quip partner to improve cyber defence in health

This week we reported that Cylera, a global leader in healthcare IoT asset intelligence and security, has strategically partnered with Integra e-Quip, a leading provider of Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), to streamline cybersecurity protection and asset management solutions for Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) and IoT environments in healthcare organisations.

The partnership will bring interconnected hospital and healthcare environments a fully integrated asset management and centralised cybersecurity system for continuous visibility with granular device data, accurate risk profiling, comprehensive inventory, and extensive threat mitigation.

Users of e-Quip with Cylera can now gain automated discovery, classification, and inventory management for all their connected IoMT assets.

Birmingham Women’s and Children’s awards EPR contract to Epic

We end with a very fresh story from yesterday, following up from initial exclusive news in December. Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust has signed a contract with Epic to provide the trust’s future electronic patient record solution, marking the start of a major digital transformation programme at the renowned specialist centre.

The first of its kind, BWC is the leading women’s and children’s trust, providing 63 ‘highly specialised’ and ‘specialised’ services, commissioned by NHS England, to women, children and young people, both regionally and nationally.

The EPR solution will provide a new core clinical information system for BWC and will replace current IT systems, including existing patient administration systems and a number of legacy specialty systems. The legacy systems preceded the formation of the trust in 2017 following the merger of the Birmingham Women’s Hospital and Birmingham Children’s Hospital.
