❤ Researchers at University of Michigan Health developed an AI model to accurately assess risk for post-procedural outcomes after PCI. Patients reported that discussion of the model’s findings before PCI would be important, especially with regard to a specific event, and not generalised composite endpoints, according to the study published in the European Heart Journal.
🏅 Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust receives a prestigious Centre of Excellence award from leading national charity Muscular Dystrophy UK. The charity for more than 110,000 children and adults in the UK living with one of over 60 muscle wasting and weakening conditions awarded Sheffield Teaching Hospitals for providing outstanding care, promoting best practice locally and nationally and demonstrating their commitment to improving health and care for people living with muscle wasting and weakening conditions.

Envisionit Deep AI, a leading innovator in AI diagnostic radiology solutions, has announced the successful receipt of a 510(k) FDA clearance for its AI assisted chest x-Ray solution, RADIFY, under two critical pathologies. Envisionit Deep AI’s RADIFY Triage has officially been cleared to triage Pneumothorax and Pleural Effusion, 2 critical findings that represent significant challenges in emergency rooms and intensive care units.
⚗ Researchers from Cleveland Clinic and IBM have published a strategy for identifying new targets for immunotherapy through AI. This is the first peer-reviewed publication from the two organisations’ Discovery Accelerator partnership, designed to advance research in healthcare and life sciences. The team worked together to develop supervised and unsupervised AI to reveal the molecular characteristics of peptide antigens, small pieces of protein molecules immune cells use to recognise threats.

This week is Cervical Cancer Prevention Week and 2023 estimates indicate that 3,791 women receive a diagnosis every year in the UK. 99.8% of cervical cancer cases are caused by untreated human papillomavirus (HPV), the most prevalent STI globally, with almost every sexually active person coming in contact with HPV at some point in their life. A recent study by Superdrug Online Doctor found that only 18% of sexually active women use condoms to protect against STIs in the UK. As Cervical Cancer Awareness Week commences, Superdrug Online Doctor is hoping to highlight the importance of contraception in preventing this disease.

Rapid advances in digital technology have expanded the availability of diagnostic tools beyond traditional medical settings. Previously confined to clinical environments, these many diagnostic capabilities are now accessible outside the clinic. A study in Nature utilised the Delphi method, a consensus-building approach, to develop recommendations for the development and deployment of these innovative technologies.
