Pharmacy2U sees demand grow for NHS new medicine service

Pharmacy2U has seen a 68% uplift in patients using the NHS new medicine service – making it the top provider of the service within the UK.

The NHS new medicine service (NMS) allows patients to have a consultation with a pharmacist about a medication they’ve been prescribed by their GP. It gives the patient the opportunity to understand how they should take the medication, any possible side effects and how to take it correctly. Patients using the service will also have the chance to ask any questions they may have.

PharmData’s latest report found that in February Pharmacy2U doubled the number of NMS consultations it handled. In addition, according to the online pharmacy, it experienced a 68% increase in patients using the service between February and March.

Kevin Heath CEO at Pharmacy2U says: “We understand the pressure faced by doctors and pharmacists alike and are doing what we can to ease this strain. This service will help to reduce NHS wastage and help medication be as effective as it can by for the patient and we urge our patients to make the most of the service.”

The service has proved to be popular with patients. Customers using the service reported a 96% satisfaction rate, with 85% agreeing they were ‘very satisfied’.

Pharmacy2U is the UK’s largest online pharmacy. Patients with specific health conditions are being invited to use the service when they have had a medication dispensed that they’ve not previously used.

In August last year the myGP app added Pharmacy2U to its platform, providing a second delivery option for patients looking to order their repeat prescriptions.
