Smart technologies have advanced in the last few years bringing powerful devices to healthcare, such as wearable devices to monitor vital signs in virtual wards.
The Smart Medical Devices Stage at Digital Health Rewired 2023 brings together visionary NHS leaders and suppliers to explore the challenges and huge opportunities presented by software, sensors and networked medical equipment.
Highlights of the programme include David Lawson, director of medical technology, NHS Policy and Performance at the Department of Health and Social Care, who will explore how medical devices are merging into digital health.
Also joining the one-day stage will be Jimmy Pryke-Walker, head of digital health at Lincolnshire Community Health Services NHS Trust, who will present a wearable technology research trial he is leading.
He will join other panelists, including Adrian Flowerday, managing director of remote patient monitoring experts Docobo, to present case studies on using smart devices @ home.
Other speakers include Ade Byrne, CIO of University Hospital Southampton, who will provide a future vision of virtual care and connected smart medical devices in a session chaired by Association of British HealthTech Industries (ABHI) lead, Andrew Davies.
With concerns about the security of patient monitoring on the table, the Smart Medical Devices Stage will also host sessions on real-time tracking and location in the NHS, and on regulation of smart technologies.
Gianluca Fontana, co-founder and chief executive officer at Prova Health, a provider of evidence and learning for digital health, will contribute to the panel on regulation of software and platforms.
Cisco is sponsoring the Smart Medical Devices Stage. Speaking about its importance, Declan Hadley, Cisco’s healthcare lead for the UK and Ireland, said: “Aspects of patient safety, experience, and staff efficiency are all underpinned by the underlying infrastructure. Not getting it right can add to the frustration and administrative burden of busy frontline staff.”
“From Cisco’s perspective, deploying secure, connected medical devices and sensors is a fundamental building block of the integrated healthcare system of the future, where technology empowers patients and enables more personalised care,” he added.
Taking place on March 14-15 at the Business Design Centre in London, Digital Health Rewired 2023 is a conference and exhibition that brings together all parts of the digital health community to celebrate the best of digital, data and innovation in health and care.
Health and care professionals will be able to network, collaborate and learn in person during two days of educational conference sessions, exhibitions, and meetings, all focused on sharing best practice and innovation.
All the conference sessions will be CPD accredited.
Returning for its fifth year is the Pitchfest competition, which will be split into two categories for 2023. The competition will see 10 finalists battle it out at Rewired, with the best start-up winning an NHS test bed for their idea or solution.
