Rewired 2023 programme explores the future of UK digital health

Digital Health Rewired, the premier conference, exhibition and networking show for the UK digital health community, has published its 2023 programme showcasing the very best use of digital and data across UK health and care.  

A key theme for Rewired 2023 is how digital and data can help health and care providers better manage unprecedented demands on services and deliver new models of care. 

Rewired speakers include:  

  • Dr Tim Ferris, director of digital transformation NHS England; 
  • Sebastien James, president and MD, Boots UK and ROI; 
  • Rt Hon Patricia Hewitt, chair NHS Norfolk and Waveney ICB; 
  • Professor Ben Goldacre, director Bennet Institute for Applied Data Science; 
  • Helen Thomas, CEO Digital Health and Care Wales;

Rewired 2023 runs 14-15 March at London’s Business Design Centre featuring more than 200 speakers across seven great CPD-accredited stages: 

  • National Policy 
  • Integrated care 
  • Digital Transformation 
  • Digital Nursing Summit 
  • AI Analytics and Data 
  • Smart Health 
  • Clinical Imaging/Smart Medical Devices 

The programme includes national keynotes, local NHS digital leaders and their teams, dynamic start-ups, policy experts, and industry thought leaders. A record number of people responded to the open call for speakers. 

The Digital Nursing Summit has been expanded to two days, with day two providing a dedicated focus on AHPs and pharmacists for the first time. Members of the CCIO, CIO and CNIO Networks hosted by Digital Health also feature prominently across the conference programmes. 

Here’s a taste of what you can expect on the Rewired stages: 

National Policy and Keynote Stage

Dr Tim Ferris, director of transformation at NHS England, makes a return to Rewired on the National Policy and Keynote Stage, home to the must-see keynote sessions. 

Ferris is joined by Professor Jane Eddleston, joint group medical director of Manchester University NHS FT, who will share lessons from Manchester’s Hive programme, the largest hospital digitisation project in Europe.  

Featured keynote speakers include Rt Hon Patricia Hewitt, former secretary of state for health and currently leading the national review of ICSs; Vin Diwakar, medical director of National Transformation and Medical Directorates in NHS England; and Saffron Cordery, deputy CEO at NHS Providers. 

Integrated Care Stage 

The Integrated Care Stage will explore new ways to deliver integrated health and social care. Day one will see ICS digital leaders explore how local digital strategies are rapidly evolving. Speakers include Ross Fullerton, CDIO at Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Berkshire West ICB; and Andy Williams, CDIO at Humber & North Yorkshire ICS. 

Day two keynotes include Rob Webster, the CEO of West Yorkshire and Harrogate Partnership; and NHS Sussex’s CDIO, Lisa Emery. 

Digital Transformation Stage  

The day one keynote, Sebastian James, UK and Ireland MD of high street pharmacy giant Boots, will set out how it is leveraging its combined deep health, retail and consumer experience to deliver new models of digital health and care. 

The day two keynotes come from across Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Speakers include: Rhidian Hurle, executive medical director and CCIO at Digital Health and Care Wales; Stephen Gallagher, director of digital health and care, Scottish Government; and Dan West, CDIO at the Department of Health in Northern Ireland. 

Digital Nursing Summit 

Expanded to two-days, the Digital Nursing Summit includes Prof Jacqueline Dunkley-Bent, chief midwifery officer at NHS England; Rahul Singal, Associate CCIO for Medicines; and Dr Natasha Phillips, CNIO at NHS England.  

Smart Health Stage 

In the day one keynote on the Smart Health Stage, Prof David Loughton CBE, CEO of The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, will share early lessons from virtual wards initiatives across the West Midlands borough.

AI, Analytics and Data Stage 

Dominic Cushnan, the director of AI, imaging and deployment at NHS England, opens the AI, Analytics and Data Stage.  

Day two stage keynotes brings together two of the biggest names in health data research and governance: Professor Ben Goldacre, Bennett Professor of Evidence-Based Medicine at the University of Oxford; and Dr Nicola Byrne, national data guardian for health and adult social care in England. 

Cyber Security Stage  

On the Cyber Security Stage Phil Huggins, the Interim National CISO for Health and Social Care at NHS England and Jamie Graham, assistant director of cyber at Digital Health and Care Wales, will explore how NHS services including NHS 111 and mental health were affected and key lessons to improve future assurance, resilience and recovery.
