Clinicians are crying out for improved accuracy and turnaround times on critical tests or scans. A dedicated stage at Digital Health Rewired 2023 will explore how pioneering NHS leaders are meeting this challenge. Vivienne Raper reports.
The Clinical Imaging Stage will bring together imaging experts who will share how they are meeting growing patient demand for critical diagnostic services on a local and regional level.
Highlights of the programme include Rebecca Hilsenrath, director of strategy, policy and public affairs at the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman (PHSO), who will be presenting on the state of NHS imaging today.
The PHSO was responsible for a landmark parliamentary report (‘Unlocking Solutions in Imaging’) about how the NHS can learn from complaints about imaging – some of which involved missed diagnoses of cancer and, most seriously, avoidable death.
Hilsenrath will be providing insights from the report during a panel discussion on delivering integrated care across multiple organisations.
Chris Scarisbrick, sales director and deputy managing director at Sectra, sponsor of the Clinical Imaging Stage, will be presenting in the same session on how on digital imaging spanning multiple organisations and disciplines can – and already is – delivering efficiency gains across the NHS.
“The shift from Analogue to Digital Clinical imaging systems was a major evolution in the delivery of diagnostics. Development of the technology to support seamless workflows over the years is helping users complete more work in less time, enabling them to prioritise patients and make better use of resources.”
“With the NHS developing Integrated Care Boards (ICBs) and ICS, the governance infrastructure is now in place to facilitate the deployment of these systems across multiple organisations at scale, reducing duplication of physical resources through centralised and cloud-based delivery models, while simplifying the delivery of specialised treatment and patient aftercare,” he added.
Other speakers include Bash Hussain, national pathology imaging co-operative (NPIC) deployment director at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, who will discuss the benefits for a National Digital Pathology solution for the NHS.
Jane Hayward, director of networks at Wessex Integrated Care Partnership (ICP), meanwhile, will highlight the progress of regional radiology networks while Benjamin Dowsing from MRI my Pacemaker will be part of the ‘Clinical Imaging diagnostics as part of elective recovery’ session.
Taking place on March 14-15 at the Business Design Centre in London, Digital Health Rewired 2023 is a conference and exhibition that brings together all parts of the digital health community to celebrate the best of digital, data and innovation in health and care.
Health and care professionals will be able to network, collaborate and learn in person during two days of educational conference sessions, exhibitions, and meetings, all focused on sharing best practice and innovation.
Returning for its fifth year is the Pitchfest competition, which will be split into two categories for 2023. The competition will see 23 shortlisted candidates battle it out, with the best start-up winning an NHS test bed for their idea or solution.
