Digital Health's weekly round-up of healthcare IT news

The latest Digital Health News industry roundup covers an improved website for InnoScot Health, a partnership between East Renfrewshire Council and Totalmobile and Greater Manchester’s new CPR training system.

InnoScot Health enhances website ahead of 20-year anniversary

InnoScot Health is celebrating its 20th anniversary with a renewed focus on empowering staff working in NHS Scotland to help develop healthcare innovations.

InnoScot has enhanced its website to make it quicker and easier for NHS staff to submit ideas. The refreshed site is more intuitive and helps to deliver expert support for developing ideas and innovations.

Graham Watson, executive chair, InnoScot Health, said: “Looking back on the last 20 years, it has been a privilege to work in partnership with NHS Scotland and help bring hundreds of game-changing healthcare innovations to market.

“We are proud of everything we have achieved and how we have helped to improve the patient experience both nationally and globally by inspiring, encouraging and supporting the NHS to help translate ideas into innovative products and services that are making a real difference to the lives of patients here in Scotland but also around the world.”

The company was formed in 2002 when it was known as Scottish Health Innovations Ltd (SHIL). Since its launch, it has formed seven spin-out companies, evaluated over 2,000 ideas and gone on to successfully integrate 250 of them into healthcare settings.

The company works in partnership with NHS Scotland to accelerate and commercialise healthcare innovations, conceived by health and social care staff.

InnoScot Health has collaborated on many successful innovations, including the Structured CRitical Airway Management (SCRAM), invented by Air Ambulance paramedics and Clear Surgical, a medical device company developed in partnership with NHS Ayrshire and Arran.

Watson added: “Looking forward too, we recognise that NHS Scotland has a significant challenge ahead in meetings its recovery plan aims, capitalising on new ways of working, maximising fresh technologies, and achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2040.”

MyRenalCare added to Department of International Trade’s playbook

A digital health solution developed in collaboration with Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust has been added to the Department of International Trade’s playbook of top British digital health companies.

MyRenalCare is the only renal solution to be added.

With the potential to revolutionise how chronic kidney disease is managed globally, the solution educates, engages and empowers patients to better self-manage their condition alongside support from their clinical team. Patients have access to animated education videos, are able to self-monitor their condition against personalised goals and contact their clinical team if they need to.

For clinicians, the tool allows them to access the patient’s data remotely and conduct virtual consultations. Having access to this data means clinicians can make better decisions with key information to hand.

MyRenalCare is also actively inviting patients in the Wessex area to use the digital platform, with the support of an NHS X grant and Kidney Care UK.

East Renfrewshire Council transforms care at home service

East Renfrewshire Council is modernising its service that plans, schedules and carries out personal care to local residents in need, with a new digital solution from Totalmobile.

Carelink from Totalmobile will give full visibility over service capacity and the ability to create efficient care plans and schedule staff visits effectively.

By using Totalmobile’s care and reablement solutions, East Renfrewshire will improve the experience for its 600+ service users and its care staff.

East Renfrewshire Health and Social Care Partnership delivers the service. Lee McLaughlin, head of adult services: communities and wellbeing at East Renfrewshire, said: “With this new solution, we will be able to receive live updates on the status of carers and visits – giving us the data at our fingertips to manage in a smart, effective manner. We’re extremely excited to be able to implement a proven, automated solution that doesn’t sacrifice the personal touch that is vital to good care.”

There are 300 employees on the Care at Home team, who will now be supported to use their time more efficiently to devote more time to the service users. The solution also ensures that the service remain safe and compliant.

The solution will be rolled out across all of East Renfrewshire by the end of the year.

Greater Manchester Mental Health installs CPR training tech

Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust has become the first mental health NHS foundation trust to install Brayden Online, a CPR training technology.

Brayden Online combines a traditional mannequin with an iOS application using a cloud server. It allows staff to do their CPR training at a time, date and location that suits them.

Toni Murch, senior resuscitation officer at Greater Manchester, said: “This new equipment will allow our staff to undertake basic life support training at a time and location that’s convenient to them.

“High quality chest compressions have been proven to be of paramount importance in saving lives and this equipment will ensure the quality of CPR is consistent across the trust.”

The system has been developed by global CPR experts. It omits the need to attend a face-to-face training basic life support (BLS) session with an instructor. Instead, staff can log in using their email address and complete a CPR training session. They can then use the mannequin to test their CPR standards.

Brayden Online delivers consistent and reliable evaluation and provides real-time feedback on the quality of CPR delivery.

The first Brayden Online unit has been installed at Greater Manchester’s headquarters. A further 10 units will be installed across the trust by the end of October 2022.
