Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt inks 10-year EPR deal with System C

The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has signed a 10-year contract with System C for an integrated electronic patient record (EPR) system that will support the trust’s strategy of putting digital first.

The new EPR from System C, which is being funded as part of the Digital Aspirant programme, will deliver electronic notes to all wards at the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt trust, as well as electronic prescribing and the ability to order and receive tests electronically.

For staff, this means they can have access to the right information and for patients, it means they have the option to modify their own appointments

Simon Adams, digital director at the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt, said: “This is a very exciting development for the trust and wider integrated care system (ICS). The new system will enable the trust to deliver better and more joined-up care for our patients through a secure and modern platform, enabling our patients and staff to communicate digitally and improve the quality and safety of our services.”

System C’s CareFlow EPR will also offer other functionality to help transform how staff work. This includes patient flow being managed with electronic ward whiteboards for key information and electronic clinical handovers helping with care coordination. Furthermore a clinical narrative module and theatre management will be integrated with Bluespier’s software.

System C has started work on an EPR blueprint which the company hopes will help to identify gaps and create a comprehensive, actionable digital transformation roadmap. With this in place, trusts can achieve higher levels of digitisation, HIMSS 5 and beyond plus the new Minimum Digital Foundations requirements.

Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt’s existing e-observations and medicines management modules from System C will be integrated with the new EPR. Furthermore there are plans to integrate the EPR with Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin Integrated Care System’s shared card record, One Health and Care, of which System C is a strategic Care Alliance partner along with Graphnet.

Nick Wilson, CEO of System C, said: “One of RJAH’s key requirements is to enable greater cross-boundary working and support population health to deliver the local ICS agenda. We’ve developed CareFlow EPR over recent years to make it ICS ready and I’m pleased we can fully support their needs to deliver services within an integrated model.”
