Digital Health’s monthly roundup of contracts and go lives

Our latest roundup of contacts and go lives brings you news including Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust launching a new shared health and care record and a couple of Epic EPR launches.

East Cheshire and Mid Cheshire to launch joint EPR in 2024

At the start of the month we brought you news that East Cheshire NHS Trust and Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust are working with Meditech to create a joint electronic patient record (EPR) which is set to launch in 2024.

The digital clinical system will use the cloud-based Meditech Expanse EPR. This will enable staff at the two trusts to capture and view up-to-date information to ensure they have the data they need when they need it.

This real-time access to data will give staff the technology they need to carry out their roles efficiently, and help them to deliver joined-up, integrated care.

Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt inks 10-year EPR deal with System C

A few days later we shared the news that The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust had signed a 10-year contract with System C for an integrated electronic patient record (EPR) system.

The new EPR from System C will deliver electronic notes to all wards at the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt trust, as well as electronic prescribing and the ability to order and receive tests electronically.

It will mean staff can access the right information, while for patients it means they have the option to modify their own appointments. The system will also offer additional functionality including patient flow being managed with electronic ward whiteboards and electronic clinical handovers, which will help improve care coordination.

Bedfordshire Hospitals launches new shared health and care record

Mid-month we announced that Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is working with InterSystems to launch a new shared health and care record.

The new record will unify patient data from multiple sources across Bedfordshire and Luton to give professionals a complete picture of a patient’s health and support.

GPs will gain access to any relevant hospital information which could prove crucial when managing complex cases. Similarly, hospital clinicians can reconcile regular medications on a patient’s admission more efficiently.

Royal Devon and Frimley live with Epic electronic patient records

This month also saw Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust go live with its new EPIC EPR. It followed in the footsteps of Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust, which also went live with its Epic EPR the previous month.

Birmingham NHS trusts select Citadel Health to reshape pathology

As the end of the month drew closer, two Birmingham NHS trusts announced they’d selected Citadel Health to reshape their pathology services.

Birmingham Women’s and Children’s NHS Foundation Trust and University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust will be deploying Citadel Health’s Evolution vLab laboratory information management system (LIMS) across all of its pathology services.

The move will provide a fully-managed, multi-site and multi-discipline LIMS which will enable increased testing capacity and improve efficiency, safety and quality outcomes. In addition, it will provide a comprehensive data capture functionality and enhance the delivery of complex integrations which will improve turnaround times.

East and North Hertfordshire EPR contract awarded to Dedalus

Finally for this month, East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust has awarded a new electronic patient record (EPR) to Dedalus.

The contract commenced at the start of the month and will run for three years, ending on 6 July 2025. The total value of the contract is reported to be £2,850,000.

Dedalus acquired the Orbis modular EPR, when it bought Agfa’s health IT division in 2020. In March of this year the company announced it was retiring the Lorenzo EPR system within the UK and Ireland in favour of Orbis.
