The Christie unlocks real-time data by partnering with Better
- 29 September 2021
The Christie NHS Foundation Trust has selected Better to provide a digital health platform that will support the modernisation of its electronic health record.
It is hoped that the move will result in clinical, patient and cancer research services being transformed.
The new openEHR will provide the trust with access to real time data which will be used to support its plans for transformation and its ambition to access the potential of data in health and care. Longer-term plans include to integrate the platform with other applications into the vendor neutral data layer.
Eileen Jessop, CIO at the trust, said: “Modernisation of our EHR platform and unlocking the power of data is a key part of the strategy to lead the development of cancer research. The ability to innovate at pace and easily integrate locally and regionally will ensure the trust stays at the forefront of specialist cancer treatment and research.”
The past 18 months have seen a modernisation programme accelerate the development of new architecture and functionality on the Christie’s in-house EHR. The trust is now looking to Better to provide a platform for the data capture elements which will be open format, accessible in real time and provide a low-code forms environment.
Matthew Cox, managing director of Better for the UK and Ireland, added: “Unified and instantly available patient data is the lifeblood of any healthcare organisation; we are delighted a trust as innovative as The Christie has selected Better. We are seeing momentum towards healthcare organisations choosing open data and open standards, The Christie is leading the way for acute NHS providers in England.”
Better’s solutions enable organisations to take control of their data and transformation plans. It has recently signed a similar deal for an openEHR platform with Lancashire and South Cumbria Health and Care Partnership.
