accuRx raises £27.5m in funding to support expansion

Healthcare communication platform accuRx has secured £27.5million in funding which will go towards expanding the company and helping build more products.

The company partnered with Lakestar, who led the Series B funding round, and with existing investors continuing with their support and British Patient Capital was welcomed as a new investor.

According to the company, 98% of GP practices are already using accuRx’s core products to communicate with patients – including its Chain SMS text service. It is now focusing on building a patient-centred platform to ensure that everyone involved in a patient’s care can communicate with each other.

Writing in a blog post, Laurence Bargery, co-founder of accuRx, said: “Product-wise, we want to go deeper into GP practices to offer more value and broaden our offering into secondary care. Healthcare is complex, and requires leaps of faith at times.

“We have some strong beliefs about our product roadmap, but some of the decisions we take will be wrong and some could be quite costly in terms of time spent. We hope this funding allows us to double down on making our current products even better, as well as taking some big bets.

“If some of these big bets come off, we’ll really increase the impact we have.”

The company wants to grow the adoption of the technology into hospital and care home settings to connect communication across the health and social care system. The funding will also be used for improving current products, growing the team and expanding office space.

Bargery concluded: “We’ve built a great foundation and we’re building products fast and at scale, which are incredibly reliable and user-focused. We’ve got an exciting roadmap to deliver more value to general practice and grow our adoption across the healthcare system.”
