Royal College of Nursing app launched to support fairer pay campaign

The Royal College of Nursing (RCN) has released an app to help its members campaign for fairer pay.

The RCN campaign app provides an easy way for members to ensure their details up to date and to update them as necessary. It also contains information, actions and the latest news on the RCN’s campaign for fairer pay for nursing.

The app will also support RCN members who are looking to advocate for change to fairer pay, safe staffing and effective care.

Graham Revie, chair of the RCN Trade Union Committee, said: “The RCN has been campaigning for more than a century, for better pay, improved terms and conditions, and safer working environments. The new campaigning app will make it even easier for you to stay up-to-date, get involved and help us achieve real change.”

The RCN consultation on NHS pay is open until noon on the 13 September. Members are being asked to voice their opinion on whether the 3% pay award is acceptable, while the Fair Pay for Nursing campaign is advocating for a 12.5% pay increase.

The launch of the app is part of the UK-wide Summer of Action events. With the consultation deadline looming, the app will play an important role in ensuring the RCN has accurate information on members’ employers.

Over the course of the year, new features and content will be added to the app. Users are also able to provide anonymous feedback via the campaigning website in order to help shape the app for future users.

Revie concluded: “Every member has the chance to be a campaigner and change starts with you.”
