Princess Alexandra Hospital appoints new CIO to ‘modernise technology’

The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust has appointed a new clinical information officer (CCIO) to lead a “continued large-scale modernisation of technology”.

Phil Holland stepped into the role in January after serving previously as director of operations for medicine and deputy chief operating officer.

Holland joined the trust in 2018 with a technical background in informatics. His appointment as CIO will include looking at how to use technology to provide patient centred care across current and new hospital sites.

In a statement the trust said he will “underpin the development of information technology” with the aim of the new hospital to be the most digitally enabled in the country.

In October 2019, the government committed funding to build a new hospital in Harlow to be run by the trust, alongside it’s three other sites.

“I am delighted to have joined the executive team at The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust at this pivotal moment as we work towards our programme of modernisation and our new hospital,” Holland said.

“By working in roles with both an informatics and an operational focus, I have a full perspective of the technology available and how it can be implemented to continually enhance patient care.

“I am committed to every change improving the experience of our amazing people and the outcomes for our patients.”

Holland previously worked as associate director of business technology at Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust; and as both chief information officer and later deputy director of performance and information at Hinchingbrooke Healthcare NHS Trust. He later went on to become deputy chief operating officer at Hinchingbrooke.
