NHSX on the hunt for a chief technology officer

NHSX is advertising for a chief technology officer (CTO).

According to the job advert, the executive role will involve working for NHSX CEO, Matthew Gould, as his technology advisor as well as head of technology profession for the NHS.

The CTO will have “overall responsibility for defining and delivering the internet-based technical architecture for the NHS and Social Care, especially focussing on creating a federated data ecosystem”.

Working with NHS Digital, the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC), and NHS England, the CTO will develop the “technical architecture for the NHS and to ensure that technology capabilities are fit for purpose to meet the needs of the health and care system”.

An in-depth understanding of the internet stack, and experience of developing or managing a large API-based architecture is advertised as essential, as is an in-depth understanding of modern software and web development practices; experience of leading software or web/internet engineering teams; and running or overseeing a development environment.

Strong leadership is also a must-have for any interested applicant, who will in turn receive a salary of ÂŁ130,000 a year.

Candidates are expected to be educated to Masters level or equivalent degree, or demonstrable relevant experience.

Hadley Beeman, who has served as technology advisor to health secretary Matthew Hancock, is currently the acting CTO.
