Alder Hey Children’s Hospital piloting eConsent software
- 21 March 2019
Alder Hey Children’s Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is piloting a digital patient consent programme.
Wellbeing Software’s eConsent is being tested by a number of clinicians across the trust as part of its wider programme of digital transformation.
The programme uses complete patient information with a clinical procedure database, including risks and benefits, to ensure all the necessary permissions for a single surgery are covered.
It’s hoped it will provide clinicians with a simple interface to access complete patient records online.
Graham Ridgway, chief executive of Wellbeing Software said: “Benefits for patients and staff alike will ensure a speedier, clear, safer and traceable consent process as well as reducing paper usage, all in all a major step forward.”
There is no planned date for the wider roll-outof the system.
Alder Hey is also working with neighbouring trusts to develop its Share2Care programme, a regional care record across Cheshire and Merseyside, including Healthier Lancashire and South Cumbria.
The trust has also implemented a number of AI projects, including, its Alder Play app which uses gaming and augmented reality to distract patients from procedures as well helping them understand their hospital visit.
Youngsters can choose and name their own avatar which can pop up at different points around the hospital and help patients collect virtual rewards following procedures, which eventually leads to accessing new content.
