Former NHS App programme director takes up CIO role at Kettering
- 29 January 2019
The current programme director of the NHS App has been named as the new chief digital and information officer for Kettering General Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
Andy Callow, who has also been head of technology delivery for NHS.UK, will start his new position in the Spring.
His move to Kettering will see him leave his position at NHS Digital, where he has overseen the development of the high-profile NHS App.
It aims to provide symptom checking and triage; appointment booking; repeat prescription ordering; access to patient records; national data opt-out; and organ donation preference.
In September 2018, the then chief digital officer at NHS England, Juliet Bauer, confirmed the app had been launched to private beta testers.
Commenting on his new appointment, Callow said: âI am excited to be the new chief digital and information officer at KGH.
âI can see lots of opportunities to improve patient and staff experience through the application of digital technology.
âI look forward to contributing to the trustâs journey of improvement.â
The position is a new one for the trust, which says it is “aiming to deliver digital services and infrastructure for patients by 2020 that enables seamless care”.
The trust’s chief executive Simon Weldon said: âI am delighted that Andy is joining the team here at KGH. We are on a journey of improvement and I know that Andy has the skills, expertise and experience needed to help take KGH forward.â

I wonder what signal this suggest about the NHS App project? Is all well if the founders of this project are leaving? I’m also hearing rumours of some anti-competition concerns around NHS App’s entry to the market.
