Bradford GP practices hit by IT issues

A number of GP practices across Bradford have been experiencing IT problems, reportedly due to an issue with air conditioning at a data centre.
NHS Bradford City Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) confirmed on 24 October that GP practices in the Bradford and Craven district were experiencing IT issues.
Services affected by the problems included electronic referrals to hospitals, prescription printing and checking pathology lab results.
A spokesperson for Airedale, Wharfedale and Craven CCG said it was “working round the clock” with IT supplier Embed Health Consortium to ensure GPs’ IT systems were “fully operational”.
They added: “Having identified risks with resilience in our system, we had been planning a move to a new data centre for some time. The move was planned for this month but an air conditioning unit failure brought those plans forward and created less than optimal conditions for the move.”
The CCG also urged those using healthcare services to “be patient” and said it was aiming to “fully restore IT systems as soon as possible”.
According to BBC News, the fault has impacted 81 practices.
A widespread network failure at two NHS data centres in Wales caused “chaos” at Welsh health boards in January.
The exact cause of the “technical glitch” was never disclosed.

We will never learn if we aren’t transparent. May be the eMBED Health Consortium will help explain how we/their customers and the NHS can avoid a recurrence?
Whoever procured eMBED need to ask why they have such shoddy network planning that permits printers to stop working because a data centre went offline.
