Clanwilliam Group acquires Informatica Systems Limited

Informatica Systems Limited has been acquired by technology and service company Clanwilliam Group.

The company, which will become part of Clanwilliam’s NHS division, provides predictive analytics technology to GP practices in Wales to help doctors predict when specific patients are at risk of developing chronic diseases.

This has allowed NHS Wales to track major public health issues and clinical issues, such as seasonal vaccinations, across the country.

Doctors can use the Informatica software, installed locally within their surgery, to analyse patient records and flag when a patient is at risk of developing a chronic condition, such as diabetes and cardiovascular disease, allowing early interventions.

The software is funded centrally through the GP Systems of Choice framework and made available to GPs and Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) at no direct cost.

Informatica Systems will be the 16th healthcare technology company to join Clanwilliam Group in the last four years.

The group has spent more than £113.9m adding businesses to its portfolio since 2014 and is continuing to expand.

This included Medisec Software, which was acquired in August 2017.

Philip Brown, managing director at Informatica Systems, said: “Joining Clanwilliam Group means we will be better able to help the NHS, drawing on a much wider pool of expertise to develop our systems, and a wider network of NHS suppliers in the group that will help us to expand the reach of our technology much further across the health service.”

Despite the acquisition, Informatica Systems customers will continue to receive the same level of support.

Howard Beggs, CEO of Clanwilliam Group, said: “Informatica Systems is a long-standing and trusted company providing invaluable services to its NHS customers. With very strong leadership, backable founders, and a robust technical stack, the company fits extremely well into Clanwilliam Group as our first technology provider focussed solely on primary care.”

  • The predictive analytics technology is provided by Informatica to GPs and CCGs. The GPs use it to analyse patient records and predict individual patients’ risk of developing certain diseases. Does Informatica have access to patient records that are so analysed or to the results of these analyses? What do CCGs do with the technology, given that they do not hold patient records or, one hopes, access them? And how does the use of this technology enable NHS Wales to “track major public health issues and clinical issues”? How do NHS Wales access the information generated by GPs in their surgeries? I should be grateful for any light on these questions and on the nature of the data flow involved.
