Health Service Executive Ireland appoints new CIO

Health Service Executive (HSE) Ireland has appointed Professor Martin Curley as its new chief information officer.

Professor Curley is the founder of the Innovation Value Institute, which engages in research and consulting contracts across a number of industries.

He also serves as senior vice president and global digital practice lead at Mastercard and has previously worked as a global director of IT innovation at Intel.

“The HSE recognises the importance of data and information in delivering patient centred health outcomes,” said HSE Ireland director general, Tony O’Brien.

“Martin’s experience and innovative ideas will enable us to continue to build on these outcomes. Martin is a proven thought leader in the application of data to provide innovative solutions and we look forward to working with him as he applies his knowledge and expertise to continue to develop and drive our ICT services within the HSE.”

Professor Curley will take over the role from interim CIO Jane Carolan, who took on extra responsibilities after Richard Corbridge announced his resignation from the post in October 2017.

On top of serving as the interim CIO for HSE, Carolan continued her role as the national director for Health Business Services, the shared services entity which provides back-office support to HSE.

Digital Health News understands she will continue these roles.

When questioned about her position after her replacement was named in March 2018, Carolan said she hoped to continue working closely with the department.

“I’ve really enjoyed the job and it has been really nice working so closely to something that makes a difference,” she added.
