Digital Health's weekly round-up of healthcare IT news

This week’s industry round up includes go-lives, contract wins, and the appointment of a new managing director for Advanced Health and Care.

Go-lives:

North Cumbria University Hospitals goes live with EuroKing maternity system

Midwives at all three sites run by North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust have started using EuroKing’s E3 maternity system, while the trust is using the stats and reporting functionality that comes with it.

The move is a shift away from paper-based working, and Darrin Southward, midwife and clinical lead for the project, said midwives were “adopting the new technology with real verve.”

Specialist hospital first for VitalPAC

Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has become the first, specialist, orthopaedic hospital in the country to install The Learning Clinic’s VitalPAC; using money from the first or ‘Safer Hospitals, Safer Wards: Technology Fund.’

The system will be used from a patient’s admission to hospital to their discharge, replacing the paper observations chart at the end of the bed, and issuing alerts if the patient’s condition deteriorates.

Aneurin Bevan University Health Board introduces electronic growth charts

Aneurin Bevan University Health Board has successfully installed CCube Solutions’ eForms software to create a computer-based system to display children’s growth records; enabling these to be easily shared via a portal.

The health board has been using an electronic document and records management system from the company since May 2013, and the new growth charts application is fully integrated with this, using a portal called Clinical Work Space.

Contract wins:

CACI wins £1.16 million deal to support CQC inspections in England

CACI Has secured a £1.16 million contract to provide a national resource planning solution for the Care Quality Commission, which will use it to manage the 20,000 inspections it needs to carry out annually.

CACI’s business management software, Cygnum, will be used to schedule the inspections and give inspectors access to information in the field, while capturing finance and resource planning data. CACI recently signed large inspection contracts with Ofsted and the Civil Aviation Authority.

Surrey and Borders to work with Connexica

Surrey and Borders NHS Foundation Trust has chosen CXAIR from Connexica as its enterprise information management solution.

A five year contract will see the company run a three stage project to replace the trust’s existing data warehouse, enable staff to access analytics via a web portal, and add new data sources.

New appointment:

George Thaw to become managing director of Advanced Health and Care

Advanced Health and care has announced that it has appointed a new managing director to take over from Jim Chase, who has decided to step down and who will leave at the end of the financial year.

George Thaw will become responsible for driving the next stage of development at Advanced. He has formerly worked for Microsoft, Avanade (a joint venture between Microsoft and Accenture), SAP and Powa Technologies (a specialist in the e-commerce and mobile-commerce markets).
