James Paget decides against Lorenzo

James Paget University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has decided not to take CSC’s electronic patient record system under the company’s interim deal with the Department of Health.

The trust runs CSC’s iSoft patient administration system and was planning on migrating to the full Lorenzo suite sometime this year, but has now turned down the deal.

Trusts in the North, Midlands and East that take the system get central funding for deployment and service costs.

A trust spokesperson told EHI that after the outline business case for Lorenzo was presented to the board, it chose not to proceed with it.

“The outline business case presented the costs and risks of the programme, together with the identified benefits. After due consideration, the board decided against progressing with the Lorenzo suite at this time,” said the spokesperson.

James Paget received its iSoft system under NPfIT and is now evaluating its needs and requirements as a trust before making a decision on potentially procuring a new system.

“We will then take an appropriate course once we have fully considered the options,” said the trust spokesperson.

The trust is not the first to say no to Lorenzo. Sheffield Children’s Hospital NHS Foundation Trust previously put its procurement on hold while assessing the system, but in February it decided against it, saying “it does not fully meet our needs as a specialist paediatric trust.”

Sheffield Children’s decided earlier this month to take the Medway patient administration system from System C, a McKesson company.

Seven trusts have so far chosen to take Lorenzo under the DH and CSC deal.
