Healthcare IT supplier EMIS has been selected by CSC in Australia to supply an electronic health information system for the Australian Defence Force.

The five year contract for the Joint e-Health Data and Information (JeHDI) system will see CSC Australia use EMIS’s PCS Enterprise clinical software to deliver a health records system to cover all personnel in the ADF.

EMIS said the latest version of its PCS software combines healthcare and dentistry in a single patient record and will support better and more efficient healthcare. It will also allow the ADF to map health-related trends across its three armed forces.

Gavin Larkings, president of CSC in Australia, said: “At CSC, we collaborate with top technology partners to provide the best solutions for our clients.

"CSC assessed the specific requirements of the JeHDI system and based on these unique needs the EMIS solution was the right answer because EMIS operates in both health and defence.”

Larkings said CSC Australia was delighted to be the integration partner for the implementation of the system which he predicted would be a showcase for Australia’s e-health evolution.

Sean Riddell, chief executive of EMIS Group, said: “As well as being the UK market-leader in primary care systems, EMIS is also highly experienced at providing military healthcare solutions and our systems are already widely deployed across the world.

“This presitigious contract further extends EMIS international reach and reinforces our credentials as a world-class provider of e-health information systems.”

EMIS clinical applications are currently used in UK Ministry of Defence establishments in Belize, Brunei, Cyprus, the Falkland Islands, Gibraltar, Italy and Nepal.

The JeHDI project should be completed by 31 December, 2013.
