Telehealth comparison website launched

  • 20 September 2010

A telehealth product comparison website has been launched by assisted living specialists, Alvolution to help trusts and local authorities choose the best quality and best value telehealth products for their organisation.

Together with NHS West Midlands and the Joint Improvement Partnership the company has built an independent comparison website that reviews a wide range of the UK telehealth products in one database.

The partnership with the strategic health authority means that several trusts across the region have been involved in the developing the website and providing user input.

Sharon Ross, telehealthcare project manager at NHS Telford and Wrekin said: “By using this single repository, we can refer products on to commissioning teams, clinicians and community workers with real confidence. The information it provides is independent and non-commercial so it can be relied upon to be credible. Gone are the hours of horizon scanning on Google.”

“I’m in no doubt that the telehealth technology finder has improved our service by reducing the wait for suitable products to be installed with users.

The site provides health professionals with access to impartial reviews of technology, to see what is available, what functionality it provides, how it compares and whether it is recommended. It also provides search functionality that allows users to search by condition, scenario or technology.

The technology on the site is in divided into several categories including communication aids, environmental control, physical aids telehealth and telecare.

Joanne Perry, demonstrator for Alvolution told E-Health Insider: “Our key aim is to share best practice on a national platform, allowing users to rate and review the products themselves to create a growing base of information.”
