Nottingham extends SRC digital dictation
- 21 April 2010
Following a successful pilot, SRC is to deploy WinScribe digital dictation to a further 1,100 users at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.
The initial pilot involved more than 250 users in the diabetes, infectious diseases, renal and cardiology departments, which span two hospital sites.
Within a month of the pilot being rolled out, urgent clinical correspondence letters were being completed and sent within 24 hours.
With the previous tape-based dictation processes, typing backlogs had risen to 15 weeks in some cases.
Joan Cornwall, project manager at the trust said: “The digital dictation solution is a key part of the trust’s new quality and safety focused ‘Better for You Whole Hospital Change Programme’.
"For such a key project, we evaluated different solutions and undertook in-depth site visits.
"Our selection [of SRC] has been justified by the fact that digital dictation is already saving a lot of time for clinicians, nurses and admin staff, which is having a positive impact on our patients.”
SRC says the time savings have been achieved because its solution is easy to adopt, automates workflow processes and makes workload visible, which helps users manage tasks more efficiently.
Keith Rigg, consultant surgeon, said: “Dictations are with the secretaries instantly, rather than arriving several days later, which means the letters leave the hospital much sooner and patients get their results sooner.”
As well as supplying the hardware and software for the project, SRC is also providing project management, implementation, training and support services.
Chris Hart, chief executive of SRC, said: “We are excited to be working with Nottingham University Hospitals and providing another successful, large scale digital dictation deployment within the NHS.”
The trust is supplying the digital dictation solution under the East Midlands re:source framework agreement, which is available to all member trusts across Derbyshire, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire County and Rutland and Northamptonshire.
