Dutch hospital fourth to pick Alert

The TweeSteden Hospital in the Netherlands has become the fourth hospital to sign a contract with Portuguese clinical software company Alert for its electronic health record system.
The company signed a deal with the hospital last week for the implementation of Alert through the whole hospital, located in Tilburg and Waalwijk.
The hospital chose Alert after medical staff, nurses and management attended demonstrations and visited other hospitals that already had the system in place.
Peter de Zwart, the president of the board of directors at the hospitals, said: “With Alert we will be able to record all patient information digitally, request medical exams electronically and standardize protocols.
“We see advantages for the patients in the long run, such as making appointments themselves with the treating specialist through a portal or checking (parts of) their own health record. We see this as a powerful means to further improve the quality and organization of care.”
The new application will also include all medical and nursing information of patients who visit the hospital. Alert will provide an integrated system which will include solutions for pharmacy, planning, a physician portal and the associated Alert eLearning system.
The deal will see the 500 bed hospitals which serve more than 200,000 residents in central Brabant become paperless by 2012.
Cesar Guimarães, chief executive officer of Alert, said: “I am proud that four hospitals have chosen ALERT in a country where healthcare standards are extremely high. This clearly shows their trust in our solutions.”
