NHS Stockport implements Lorenzo R1
- 11 January 2010
NHS Stockport has become the seventh site to implement iSoft’s Lorenzo electronic patient record system.
The primary care trust has gone live with Lorenzo Regional Care Release One (LRC 1) clinical documentation model.
This is being used by a community rehabilitation therapy team, following an implementation from local service provider, CSC, under The National Programme for IT in the NHS.
Howard Gray, director of IM&T at NHS Stockport, told E-Health Insider: “The module was deployed by the community rehabilitation therapy team, which is based at Regent House in Stockport. The CRT team is comprised of 15 clinicians and two admin staff.”
The CRT team treats patients in their homes and its clinicians can access LRC 1 and the trust’s patient administration system – iPM – via a remote working system that has been developed as part of the Lorenzo project.
Gray added: “The CRT clinicians access LRC1 and iPM using laptops configured with 3G connections from patients’ homes.
"This allows the clinicians to record and generate intervention plans and treatment records using the LRC1 Medipad functionality. These are saved directly into the patient’s electronic record.
"The clinicians currently return to the office to generate discharge summaries in Lorenzo Regional Care."
CRT staff are able to upload scanned copies of referrals into the system, which clinicians can triage remotely. This eliminates the need for clinicians to visit the office to pick up new referrals received by the service.
NHS Stockport, which went live on 7 December 2009, is the second PCT to go-live with Lorenzo, the other being South Birmingham PCT. It has has been using elements of the system in podiatry since September 2008.
Gray added: “NHS Stockport has used the project as a pilot to gain experience of deploying clinical documentation and the LRC product, and to investigate how the product can be used in conjunction with a remote working solution.
“The PCT plans to embark on an LRC R1.9 project in the coming months, with a provisional deployment in Q1/Q2 2011.”
