  • 12 October 2009

The World of Health IT (WoHIT) Conference and Exhibition and the ministerial event known as the High Level e-Health Conference will be jointly run next March in an initiative called e-Health Week 2010.

The conference will be held at the Convention Centre CCIB in Barcelona from 15-18 March 2010 and is being organised by the European Commission, HIMSS Europe, the Spanish Ministry of Health and Social Policy, the Regional Government of Catalonia and Foundation TicSalut.

On the first day there will be a closed ministerial conference. Between 16-18 March five parallel sessions will be presented, two for the e-health conference and three from the WoHIT.

The main themes will include e-health for sustainable healthcare delivery, e-health addressing global challenges through local actions, e-health works: here is the evidence, e-health market: present and prospects and e-health user platform.

For the first time the two major European e-health conferences will bring together policy makers and e-health users and promoters.

Gérard Comyn, head of unit at the European Commission, ICT for Health and Information Society and Media Directorate-General, said: “Building on the results of the Swedish Presidency, the Barcelona High Level e-Health Conference will be the starting point of a new set of actions on eHealth deployment.”

Prior to the conference, online networking tools will allow delegates to participate in the conference by submitting questions to panel moderators, organising meeting network with other delegates and access an on-line reference guide of e-health solution providers.

The conference is targeted at delegates including hospital chief information officers, IT providers, healthcare practitioners, government decision makers, end users and academia and around 60 exhibitors.

Jeremy Bonfini, senior vice president, Global Services at HIMSS: “There are enormous e-health investments being made right now by government and healthcare providers. WoHIT 2010 will give all stakeholders critical knowledge to the practical benefits of e-health throughout the continuum of care.”
