Spacelabs dabl in CVD management

  • 14 September 2009

Irish cardiovascular disease management systems developer and supplier, dabl, has partnered with Spacelabs UK, a medical equipment company to provide a complete blood pressure monitor and 24 hour blood pressure software solution.

As part of the agreement, Spacelabs will promote and sell the dabl ABMP 24 hour blood pressure software along with their ambulatory blood pressure monitors to GPs and pharmacies, making the method of blood pressure measurement more widely available.

The dabl ABPM software is able to automatically interpret data from the monitors making it accessible to GPs and pharmacies. It is already used in more than 1,000 clinics and pharmacies worldwide.

Ian Harper, UK managing director of Spacelabs Healthcare, said: “Spacelabs has long been considered the ‘gold standard’ equipment provider for ABPM equipment within the acute market.

“This new partnership with dabl will ensure that primary healthcare practitioners and local pharmacies are also able to provide fast, reliable and interpreted ABPM reports to dramatically help improve patient care and management”.

Uncontrolled blood pressure is one of the key risk factors in strokes, heart attacks and other cardiovascular conditions. According to the companies, medical research shows that relying solely on a one-off blood pressure test is outdated and can be highly inaccurate and current hypertension guidelines specify that the most accurate measurement is over a 24- hour period.

Bill Rickard, managing director of dabl Ltd, said: “As part of our global strategy to develop key channel partners we are very pleased with our agreement with Spacelabs Healthcare, who are also market leaders in their own area of expertise.”
