Study on progress to European e-health space

  • 2 January 2009

Details have been released of a new EU-funded study into measuring progress towards an interoperable e-health space

The objectives of the study are to measure and assess Union Member States eHealth progress. Fostering the development and implementation of national eHealth policies and strategies has been a key goal of the EU e-health Action Plan of 2004.

The study will update part of the comprehensive survey work undertaken earlier by the so-called ‘e-Health ERA’ project.

The final report, expected during the middle of 2010, will involve a comprehensive progress report with country briefs and policy recommendations on Member States e-health policy progress towards an interoperable European e-health space.

Principal investigator for this new work is German e-health research specialist empirica Communication and Technology Research.

Prof. Denis Protti of the University of Victoria, Canada, will be a special advisor to the study and contributor. Prof. Protti is a global expert on the comparative analysis of national and regional e-health implementations.

Contributing partners are the Finnish National Institute for Health and Welfare, and European law firm Time.Lex CVBA as well as further expert institutes in all the more than 30 countries to be covered by this extensive research.
