60 Seconds Interview: Jill Beech

  • 5 July 2007

Jill Beech looks after pathology systems in Milton Keynes General NHS Trust. Most recently, the trust has upgraded its pathology system to the WinPath pathology system from software developers CliniSys, to ensure it is compatible with the new Millennium patient administration system and are also using Olympus’ blood tracking system. Here, we take a look at how she spends her time away from checking the systems are working well.

What’s the first thing you do when you get into the office?

Look at the number of messages on the answer phone, if there’s lots I know there’s a problem with the GP Messaging.

Your favourite gadget at the moment?

I’m not too good on gadgets! I’m still impressed by the memory stick!

What’s the best thing about your job?

The freedom to act.

Favourite song?

Stairway to Heaven as played by my son.

Pet hate?

Credit not given where due.

Favourite website?

eBay

What annoys you?

Disorganised meetings

In a perfect world, what would you be doing?

With my quality manager hat on, auditing to ensure it stayed that way and looking for opportunities to improve it further. Nothing is ever perfect.

What’s caught your eye recently?

A huge Radley handbag

e-Health innovation that interests you at the moment?

We’ve just implemented the Olympus Blood Track system at MK. We have recently learnt of a development by CliniSys towards ward users directly entering the fate of units. We are very interested in hearing more and how we can get our hands on this. Our ideal would be positive patient identification at the bedside, but these things come at a cost.
