Clinical software firm, Misys Healthcare Systems has announced today the opening of its UK headquarters office in Sussex and the appointment of Duane Lawrence as general manager and head of UK International Sales.  Misys says its new UK HQ will enable it to better serve NHS customers.

Lawrence, who will lead the new Misys Sussex office, is a former director of Misys Healthcare Systems – Physician Services business unit based in Raleigh, N.C.  During his career with Misys, he led client implementation services, oversaw product management of practice management systems, and held rising sales executive positions.

Andrew Lawson, president of Misys Healthcare Systems, hospital systems business unit, added: “Our expanded clinical offerings, coupled with our new Sussex facility, positions Misys strongly to serve the needs of the NHS as it works to integrate departmental and enterprise-wide systems within the Integrated Care Record Services (ICRS) initiative.”

“Misys’ best-of-breed laboratory, radiology and pharmacy solutions and the recent addition of Misys Image Management PACS solution and Misys CPR, [formerly the Patient1 electronic patient record (EPR) system from Per-Se Technologies], forms our comprehensive clinical information suite now being offered to the international market,” said Lawrence.

Misys’ newest NHS customers include University Hospital Birmingham NHS Trust, which recently acquired the CoPathPlus pathology system, and Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, now implementing the Misys CPR EPR solution.

Tony Curtis, chief executive of Lancashire Teaching Hospitals and former EPR project manager, said, “When implementing a system as complex as a multi-site electronic patient record, it is important to have not only the best solution, but also a strong technology partnership.”

Graham Frost, managing director, for UK-based InterSystems, which has partnered with Misys to deploy its Caché database technology to support web-based healthcare transactions, commented: "With their expanded electronic patient record systems offering, Misys now has a powerful and proven suite of clinical solutions that deserves serious consideration by healthcare providers.”

Misys Healthcare Systems, a division of Misys plc, is one of the top five healthcare IT companies in the US. The company currently serves over 85,000 physicians, 1,200 hospitals and 600 home care providers.  The firm employs more than 6,500 people internationally and in 2003 reported revenues in excess of $1.5 billion.
